Food & Justice Night
Earlier this week, students, families, faculty, and staff gathered for Grace’s third annual Food & Justice Night, an evening of learning, sharing food, and telling stories that explore the intersections of social justice, sustainability, and culture.
This year's event celebrated student voices, with a lineup of student affinity group leaders sharing their perspectives on the connections between food, culture, and social justice. Senior Ashley A. spoke about navigating her Dominican identity while at Grace and finding pride in her culture and traditional foods, like arroz con habichuelas. Junior Jayanth C. discussed how he connects with his Indian ancestry through food even as he most closely identifies with being African-American. Poster boards, completed by Ms. Antonio's Middle School Service Learning Classes, displayed information about food waste and food insecurity in NYC and wove together the themes of sustainability, social justice, and food for guests to explore.
