Stokes Library Media Center

The Stokes Library Media Center serves the school community as a welcoming space for reading, browsing, small-group work and research.  Throughout the school day, the library is open and available to host a group of students working together on a project, a class looking for information on a topic, a teacher helping a student with an assignment, or a small group of students studying a text with the aid of a teacher.  It is also used for committee meetings, which might bring together administrators, faculty, trustees and students.

The five rooms of the library, whose traditional woodwork and marble fireplaces provide a gracious setting, house a 14,000-volume collection of printed texts. The ebook collection can be accessed through any device, including e-readers, which are available for borrowing.  The library’s desktop computers, laptops and iPads are also available for students to use for research and projects.

High School Division Library/Information Center

The Library/Information Center sits at the heart of the Grace Church High School Division and serves as its educational center. The sunlit, open plan space accommodates individual, small group and class work and is home to books, ampl and essential e-resources and databases, The fiction and non-fiction collections provide curricular support and promote leisure reading. The librarians serve as a resource to teachers as well as students, helping to embed information literacy skills in classroom projects and lessons.

The LIC is also home to the Reference Information Center (RIC). Where, like our Math and Science and Writing Centers, Students may make a one on one appointment for intensive research guidance and readers advisory. Librarians are available in the LIC and RIC both before and after school hours throughout the week.

The library program includes time for formal classroom instruction. Classes conducted in the library help students to learn about its resources and hone their research skills. When needed, the librarians travel to classrooms to support specific projects. Students in Grades 9 and 10 take Digital Tools and Citizenship, team-taught by the Technology Department and the librarians. The Library/Information Center is also a place for informal, student-led exploration and hands-on learning.
