The admissions process begins in the fall prior to the year of enrollment. Applications for the academic year 2017-18 are now closed.

Steps to Apply

Junior Kindergarten applicants must be 4 years old and Kindergarten applicants must be five years old by September 1 of the year in which they will be entering the school.

  1. APPLY ONLINE - Submit a completed Application for Admission with a $75 fee for each applicant. If you are applying for financial aid, the application fee is waived. After your application has been processed, you will gain access via your online application portal to supplementary forms mentioned below. The school will process your application and will contact you to arrange interviews and tours.

  2. TRANSCRIPTS - Submit a transcript request to the applicant's current school. Forms are available on the online applicant portal
  3. RECOMMENDATION - Invite a teacher recommendation through the online application portal. Schools should not send transcripts or recommendations before November, at the earliest, to give faculty time to know your child. Forms are available on the online application portal
         -JK, K, 1: File the appropriate ISAAGNY form no earlier than mid-November. 
         -Grades 2-4: File the appropriate ISAAGNY form no earlier than mid-November.
         -Grades 5-8: Submit two teacher recommendations from your current math and English teachers. 

  4. TESTING - Arrange for the appropriate testing.
    Grades 2-4: ECAA test
    Grades 5–8: ISEE or SSAT 

  5. SUBMIT GRADED ESSAY (Grades 5–8) – Applicants must submit a copy of a graded essay with the teacher's comments visible. The essay should not be a creative writing paper; it may be selected by the student from a current English or history class. This essay should be uploaded via the online application portal.

  6. SUBMIT ORIGINAL ESSAY (Grades 5-8) - Applicants must submit an essay of up to 500 words from a choice of prompts available on the online application portal.
Siblings, children of legacies who have attended Grace Church School, staff/faculty of Grace Church School, and Grace Church members of at least 3 years standing receive preference at the Junior Kindergarten entry level only.

Depending upon grade placement, parents will be notified of acceptances for the next academic year from February to early March according to the dates specified by the Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY). Please note that these notification and reply dates apply to application files that are completed by Friday, January 13, 2017.
