Stokes Library Media Center

The Stokes Library Media Center is a modern multimedia library center with a large collection of books, periodicals, an online catalog and access to reference resources on the Web. The library occupies a five-room complex in the former refectory of Grace Church School — a gracious traditional space featuring oak beams and woodwork, two marble fireplaces and two bay windows of ornate leaded glass.

The library serves students in all grades. Students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 4 have scheduled library classes. Middle School students in Grades 5 through 8 are flexibly scheduled according to their research and recreational reading needs. The library is open before and after school and is used extensively by parents and caregivers as well as by students, faculty and administrators. All students may borrow books.

High School Division Library/Information Center

The Library/Information Center sits at the heart of the Grace Church High School Division and serves as its educational center. The sunlit, open plan space accommodates individual, small group and class work and is home to books, ample periodicals and essential e-resources and databases, The fiction and non-fiction collections provide curricular support and promote leisure reading. The librarian serves as a resource to teachers as well as students, helping to embed information literacy skills in classroom projects and lessons.

The library program includes time for formal classroom instruction. Classes conducted in the library help students to learn about its resources and hone their research skills. When needed, the librarian travels to classrooms to support specific projects. Students in Grades 9 and 10 take Digital Tools and Citizenship, team-taught by the Technology Department and the librarian. The Library/Information Center is also a place for informal, student-led exploration and hands-on learning.
