Grace’s high school combines a close-knit, supportive community with a program that takes every dimension of a student’s development seriously. Students are known here, and that sense of belonging is what allows them to take intellectual risks, ask hard questions, and engage fully in the work these years demand as they ask themselves: Who do I want to be when I leave here?
Students build a strong, rigorous foundation across every major discipline—literature, history, mathematics, science, philosophy, world languages, and the arts.
Through an expanding range of electives and advanced courses, students pursue their deepest interests with sustained focus. Senior Seminars in Literature and History culminate in 25-page independent research papers.
46 Cooper Square sits in the center of Greenwich Village, steps from Washington Square Park, the East River fields, and the creative energy of lower Manhattan. The location is part of the educational program, not incidental to it. Students routinely take their coursework into the field and to nearby universities, engaging the city as a laboratory, a stage, and a living archive.
The arts, technology, and extracurricular life at Grace are central to how students discover who they are, and they are embraced with energy and enthusiasm across the program.
DRAMA
Three mainstage productions per year, performed on campus and at professional venues across New York City.
MUSIC
Instrumental and vocal ensembles, from beginner to advanced. The Jazz and Contemporary Music Major develops a recorded portfolio for college auditions.
Dance
An inclusive studio welcoming all levels. The Grace Dance Ensemble works with critically acclaimed guest artists throughout the year.
Visual Arts
From foundational drawing and sculpture to independent studio practice. Film and media students submit work to regional and national film festivals.
Technology
Taught as both a practical skill and a critical discipline. From Digital Tools & Citizenship through the Technology Major in Python, SQL, and JavaScript, students graduate as capable, critical participants in the digital world.
Every Wednesday, high school students step outside the traditional classroom for Lab Studies—a required four-year program that bridges academic learning and real-world engagement through its curriculum. Students might study climate science with Columbia University researchers, restore oyster reef habitats in New York Harbor, or examine the ethics of AI alongside philosophers and practitioners.
Sophomore year is anchored by the Independent Projects 10 course, affectionately known as “IP 10.” Each student spends the majority of the year pursuing a self-directed research project that explores an area of deep curiosity or interest for them, culminating in multimedia presentations at a spring community symposium.
In junior and senior year, two signature courses run alongside their Lab Studies courses: College Seminar and the Senior Storytelling Project, in which every graduating senior crafts and delivers a personal narrative using The Moth’s framework—a rite of passage that is distinctly Grace.
Across the high school, learning is intrinsically motivated, deeply personal, and genuinely joyful.

Varsity and JV competition across fall, winter, and spring seasons, supported by expert coaches and one of the largest indoor athletics facilities of any independent school in Manhattan.
From Debate and Model UN to Investment Club and Python Coding. Students are encouraged to follow their interests and may propose new clubs beginning in tenth grade.
In this selective, application-based two-year program, juniors and seniors develop leadership, facilitation, and communication skills, designing and executing programming for younger students across divisions.
At Grace, support is embedded in how we teach—built into the design of every class through a framework that asks teachers to design instruction with the full range of learners in mind from the start. The Math and Science Center, Writing Center, and two dedicated learning specialists are available as resources for students throughout the school day.
