Jan Beyea '53 and Alexandra Boghosian '03
for an intimate gathering to discuss the science behind climate change.
Moderated by Katrina Kuh, Professor of Environmental Law. 
 
Reflecting on their research in sustainability, energy policy and glaciology - Jan and Alex will draw upon complex scientific concepts in a conversational and informal environment. With climate policy now in upheaval in the U.S. and many other nations, it is more important than ever to understand where the scientific community stands on these crucial issues.

  • Jan Beyea '53

    Jan Beyea is a researcher and consultant in the areas of Toxics, Human Health, and Epidemiology, Forests and Wildlife, Sustainable Development, and Energy Policy; he was named a fellow of the American Physical Society, the professional organization of American physicists, and has served on nine panels of the National Research Council, the research arm of the National Academies of Sciences and the National Academies of Engineering.  The 2009 report, America's Energy Future, was focused on ways to deal with the energy contribution to global warming.

  • Alexandra Boghosian '03

    Alexandra Boghosian is a graduate student in glaciology at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University where she is supported by a fellowship from the National Science Foundation. Her research focuses on using satellite imagery to study surface hydrology in Antarctica, and has also taken her to Greenland and Antarctica for fieldwork. In 2013, Alex co-founded the Sustainability Media Lab, a program she ran until 2016. Alex is interested in new media and technology, and uses 3D printing and virtual reality to communicate earth science research.

  • Katrina Kuh, Moderator

    Katrina Kuh (GCS Parent), recently named the first Haub Distinguished Professor of Environmental Law at Pace University, has taught environmental law at Hofstra Law School since 2007. She has published widely on topics related to climate change and is co-editor of The Law of Adaptation to Climate Change: United States and International Aspects and Co-Chair of the International Bar Association Working Group on the Legal Aspects of Climate Change Adaptation.
