Diahann Billings-Burford '86 Visits 11th Grade Students

Not just another trailblazer.
Diahann Billings-Burford, featured in the alumni display case 2014 fall exhibit of trailblazers, made a personal appearance at GCS to speak to 11th graders embarking on their two-year-long service learning class.
A lifelong volunteer, Diahann was named NYC’s Chief Service Officer by Mayor Bloomberg in 2009.  Not only did she help students understand how to set the course for their service learning, she shared her experiences on mentoring and leadership, her work as Director of College Guidance and Director of Leadership Development Opportunities at Prep for Prep, and her own journey through Grace, Poly Prep, Yale and Columbia.  From an internship at the White House to a stint as a corporate lawyer and ultimately landing in a career devoted to encouraging and supporting volunteers, Diahann’s personal trajectory left a deep impression on the gathered students. Diahann is now Head of Corporate Responsibility for Time Warner.
