Alumnus Wins Peabody Award

Alex Ambrose '94 won a Peabody Award for the podcast Meet the Composer with Nadia Sirota, for which he is executive producer.

In the words of the committee: Fascinating, intelligent, enlightening podcasts devoted to the work of current classical composers. The show integrates music with thoughtful conversation about it without distracting from either.

Alex writes, “I've been the supervising producer since 2011 for the department within New York Public Radio, namely Q2 Music, which created Meet the Composer which just concluded only its second season in December. My roots at the radio station go back originally to WNYC, then WQXR in 2009 when WNYC purchased WQXR from The New York Times, forming collectively New York Public Radio.
I'm very proud of the work that Q2 Music has done: We do live webcasts at venues around NYC, have a 24/7 stream of new classical music, a robust website within wqxr.org, and engage hosts both established and emerging to share passion for today's classical scene. It's an antidote to the familiar and enshrined, a playground for musical discovery and the curious listener.”

Projects that Q2 Music has conceived and executed, including Meet the Composer, have been featured in the New York Times, BBC World Service, The Guardian, New Yorker, and Wall St. Journal.
