Lorry Perry Appointed Next Head of High School

Lorry Perry, who presently serves as the Assistant Head and Dean of Faculty at Blair Academy, will become Grace’s next Head of the High School Division, succeeding Hugo Mahabir. Lorry is a master teacher and veteran administrator. Prior to Blair, she worked at the Lawrenceville School as a teacher, dorm head, department head and founding director of the Lawrenceville Summer Scholars Program, a boarding academic summer program.
In Lorry’s 21 years of experience in independent secondary education, she has worked on many of the most pressing issues in education today. She served on the NJAIS Task Force which conducted a DEI review of its accreditation guide, she’s given presentations at several conferences (including one on recruiting and retaining a diverse faculty at the TABS Conference), and she founded “Binders Full of Women” (a female-identified school leaders peer group). Lorry has taught at the Scattergood Friends School and Phillips Exeter Academy where she oversaw the teaching intern program.

Of her appointment, Lorry said, “I can’t wait to meet Grace students and their families! Through my interview process, I was thrilled to get to know many employees and members of the Board of Trustees, including many of the founding members of the high school; each took such great care in creating a vibrant and responsive school environment. Now, I am eager to get to know all the students for whom this school came into being! During my visits, I have been energized by how Grace Church School keeps its ideals in sight and perpetually seeks to enliven and enact them. It is a blessing to have this opportunity to partner with so many here to help bring Grace Church School forth over the coming years, in excellence and through community.”

Incoming Head of School, Robbie Pennoyer, said of Lorry’s appointment, “I am thrilled for Grace that Lorry Perry is joining us as the next Head of the High School.  Lorry’s mastery of the craft of teaching, her passion for supporting and leading a faculty, her knowledge of high school students and her skill at inspiring them–these are all strengths that shone through in the search process and that will make her transition to Grace an easy one for her and a great one for us.  Lorry’s intelligence, vision, integrity, and humor make her a worthy successor to Hugo Mahabir and a terrific match for our community.”

Lorry described her excitement in joining the Grace community, “My wife, Liz, and I are both lifelong educators who delight in knowing our students well and in building deep friendships within our schools. We also love to read, hike, bird watch, garden, catch live music and walk our dogs. We are excited to start our Grace Church School chapter!”

Lorry has a bachelor of arts in English and secondary education from Wellesley College and is AbD in English from the University of Iowa. Lorry has won several awards for excellence in teaching and is a published writer.
