The Blue Wave

Come check out the Blue Wave on display in the Library at 46 Cooper Square this week.
In honor of Earth Day, members of the Grace community have participated in a number of programming initiatives over the last week. Monday, the 23rd – Earth Day - started with a “straw exchange” to reduce the use of single-use plastic straws by the Green Team. Later that week there was a straw and sleeve sale. Yesterday, families joined together at the Sustainability Family Meeting to discuss strategies for local climate initiatives.

This week, Blue Wave, a sculpture created by the Leaders for Environmental Advocacy at Pratt (LEAP) artist Samuel Pressman will be on display in the high school library. This waveform is created using 24 hours’ worth of hard plastic trash from the Pratt Institute Brooklyn Campus.

Information about how we create "waves" of plastic every day, which often end up in our oceans, can be found on the sandwich board next to the sculpture. We hope to audit our own campus this year to see what size wave we contribute, and to keep working on reducing single-use plastics.
