During daily free time in the classrooms, children choose their own activities from a variety of manipulatives, games, building and art materials as well as items for dramatic play. An important part of each day is time on the play roof, which is equipped with climbing structures, slides, tricycles, balls and a play house.

Parents are asked to help chaperone field trips during the year; among the venues are an apple farm, the Union Square Market, Central Park Zoo, Transit Museum and the Staten Island Children's Museum.
