Casey D. '20 Scores 1,000th Point

One Grace Griffin soared to new heights during a varsity basketball game against York Prep last month: Casey D. ‘20 scored the 1,000th point of her Grace basketball career, a huge milestone.
“We are all so very proud of [Casey’s] amazing feat!” said Girls’ Varsity coach and Athletics Director Illi Armijos. “Casey is a tremendous talent, she can create her own shot and make everyone around her better.”

“Scoring 1,000 points had been the only individual goal I set for myself prior to entering Grace. I’m very proud that I was able to do so,” Casey stated when asked about her accomplishment. “However, my goals have evolved from individual ones to team-centric ones since I began playing my freshman year.” A fitting sentiment from Casey who, in her senior year, is now team captain.

To Casey, teamwork on and off the court has always played a central role in her individual successes. “I’ve played basketball since I was four and have always worked very hard to strive towards being a better player, but I could have never accomplished this without my teammates and coaches,” she said. “They’ve been apart of every point, whether it be passing me the ball, patting me on the back or cheering for me on the sideline, and I cannot help but credit that. For as long as I’ve played, I hadn’t enjoyed being on a team as much as I have at Grace, and it’s because I was alongside some of the most supportive and uplifting women.”

Beyond celebrating their captain’s achievement, the entire Girls’ Varsity team had reason to celebrate that afternoon, taking home a win against York Prep. Congrats to Casey for scoring 1,000 points and to the Girls’ Varsity team for a great game!
