The technology department provides students with
a
foundation of computer skills that will support and
enhance lifelong learning experiences. Computer
instruction is integrated with the school’s course of
study and includes age-appropriate mastery of
programming and use of tools, with an emphasis on
digital research, multimedia creation and presentation,
Internet navigation and integration of technology into the other
acedemic disciplines.
Every classroom has Internet access and is part of
a school-wide network. Members of the technology department work
with
faculty to provide technological options and to
assist them in designing a curriculum that involves
the use of technology.
Every faculty member and Upper School student
is provided with an e-mail account and network access account that
provides
|
a link to the wealth of resources available
on the internet and stored on the GCS school wide network.
The school’s wireless network
turns every classroom into a computer lab, allowing students to
work on specific projects related to the curriculum with one of
the floating laptop labs that move
freely between the classooms.
In addition, The
Robert Lehman Digital Arts Center was concieved and designed
to integrate digital technology, academics and the arts for inter-departmental
projects across the curriculum.
A
range of projects that exist in the collaborative area between
Art, Science, Music and Technology are completed each year under
the guidance of the director of the Digital Arts Center and the
teacher of the partnered discipline.
Additional classes are available to the
GCS parent body in a series of evening workshops and also afterschool
to students through the Grace After
School Program.
