Resource Center and Language Labs

Philosophy

The mission of the Resource Center is to support and serve all the students at Grace Church School. The Resource Center is committed to offering strategies that will promote excellence in learning as required by the demands of the school’s curriculum. For those students requiring assistance because of particular learning styles or learning differences, the goals are to modify, adapt and offer alternatives in learning to meet their individual needs. The Resource Center also strives to foster students’ self-confidence, and to encourage students to become effective advocates for themselves.

The roles of the learning specialists in the Lower School are multifaceted and fluid, depending on both the needs of individual students and classrooms. The learning specialists' roles are modified as necessary. The learning specialists work on many skills with the students, including but not limited to: decoding, vocabulary, fluency, sequencing, comprehension, expressive writing, descriptive writing, grammar, handwriting, organization and metacognition. The learning specialists mainly work with children in small groups, but also work one-on-one when necessary, and with entire classes. They conduct and lead specific lessons, but also work in conjunction and collaboration with classroom teachers.
