Boys' Varsity Basketball Teams at Grace Church School

The 1996-97 Team

The Boys' Varsity Basketball team had a really tough season this year. I don't think the team was as bad as the record shows. In the beginning, the team as a whole did not know what to expect as I was the only veteran. But the team matured nicely. In each game, a member stepped up and either gave the team a push or carried the team. Miles, Heeseung and Matthew did a good job of bringing up the ball. Each of these guys organized the offense and made some good plays. Caldwell, Lawrence and Roger each played their part at the center position, letting opponents know that they would have to do some work to get by them. Park was an awesome rebounder who was very unselfish with the ball. He has a pretty good jumpshot, but that was always a last resort for him. Ben, Max, Willie, Stephen and Jackson often bailed me out and were a great asset to the team in the forward position. I also appreciate the contributions made by Zaak and Daniel in their short tours of duty. And of course, I won't forget our coaches, Mr. Divéki and Mr. Hines. Without them, we would have been playing recess basketball. In conclusion, I think this season was not wasted. It was a learning experience that the 7th graders will use next year to improve and the 8th graders will take to their high schools.
