24 kg of cherries for the winter. First she works with 1/3 of the cherries
and then with the rest. In the first batch she adds 10 dkg of sugar to every
half a kg of cherries, but in the second batch she adds 30 dkg of sugar
to every 2 kg of cherries. How many jars does she need if 70 dkg of sugared
cherries fit in each jar?
A.594. Uncle Harry took 3 kinds of apples
to the market, a total of 782 kg of apples. By noon he sold 108 kg of Fiji
apples, 212 kg of golden delicious, and 114 kg of green apples. At that
point he still had the same amount of each kind to be sold. How many kilograms
of apples did he take to the market from each kind?
A.595. Chanticleer, the rooster, and his
wife, Demoiselle, built a new hill in their backyard. To celebrate it, they
threw a garden party for all the other roosters and hens in the neighborhood.
At one point during the party every third hen and every other rooster at
the party was on the hill scratching and looking for worms. At that moment,
there were 12 hen-legs and 18 rooster-legs scratching on the hill. How many
roosters and hens were there at the party all together?
A.596. In a tale a fox made the following
pact with a boy: Every time the boy crosses the bridge the fox doubles the
boy's money, but after that the boy has to pay a fee of $24. The boy agreed
to this offer because he thought he could make a lot of money this way,
but he was very disappointed when after crossing the bridge for the third
time and paying the fox the fee, he had no money left! How much money did
the boy have when he made this pact with the fox?
A.597. Demoiselle baked 2 trays of cookies
for the guests. She asked Chanticleer to set the table. First he divided
the cookies onto 5 plates and ate the 2 cookies that were left over. Then
he put the cookies onto 4 plates. Again, he had 2 cookies left over, so
he ate them. Finally he decide to to put the cookies onto 3 plates. This
time he had one cookie felt over, so he ate it. How many cookies did Demoiselle
bake if no more that 20 cookies can fit on one tray?

Ben, Cameron, and Dave live on the same street. Ben's house is 768 meters
from Dave's house, Alex's house is 53 meters from Cameron's house, and Ben'
house is 18 meters from Cameron's house. How far could Alex live from Dave?
A.599. Adam bought a great toy from his
friend. He managed to bargain the price down by its fourth, and this way
it costs $78. How much did the toy cost originally?
A.600. On his bicycle, Uncle Harry took
eggs to the market in the next village. On his way to the market he had
to be more careful, therefore, he could go only by half the speed than on
his way back. He left at 6:20 am and returned to his house at 2:45 pm. How
much time did he spend at the market if it took him 84 minutes to get there?
